Picea pungens 'Karpaten' has a remarkable blue color and a compact growth habit. 'Karpaten' stays flat and has a neat shape and needles that are less sharp than those of similar varieties. 'Karpaten' prefers a position in sun or semi-shade in a rich, moist but well-drained soil. This conifer grows to about 90 cm high and 200 cm wide and is very suitable as a garden plant and for mass planting. Hardy to -35 ºC. 'Karpaten' has been bred by M. Verweij from Boskoop and is protected by breeders' legislation. Bremmer Boomkwekerijen BV from Waddinxveen markets the plant and has sent it in for inspection. The management is in the hands of Plantipp BV from IJsselstein.
