Vitex agnus-castus 'V12-2-1' (ROCK STEADY) stands out because of its exceptionally long flowering period. Unlike many standard varieties, this selection produces its flower buds on new growth, allowing flowering to begin in early summer and continue well into autumn. In trials, Rock Steady® flowered for up to six weeks longer than standard Vitex agnus-castus varieties.
This robust and low-maintenance plant offers excellent heat and drought tolerance, ensuring reliable performance under a wide range of conditions. As a result, ROCK STEADY is particularly well suited for use in public green spaces, landscaping projects and private gardens.
The variety originated from a seedling and was developed by Carol Robacker at the University of Georgia. An application for plant breeders’ rights protection has been submitted. The introduction is scheduled for spring 2027.
With its extended flowering period, vigorous growth habit and resilience under challenging conditions, this new Vitex represents a valuable addition to the existing assortment.
