Scabiosa columbaria 'Lier 01' (LAURIE) is a compact and long-flowering Scambiosa with deep blue flowers that stand firmly upright and do not fall out. This new variety is distinguished by a longer flowering period than usual within the range - from May until the first night frost - and a compact growth habit that is not only visually attractive, but also offers advantages for transportation and presentation.

Compared to “Butterfly Blue”, for example, LAURIE stays lower and fuller, which makes it very suitable for both retail and landscape planting. In addition, this mutant of Scambiosa columbaria is excellent for warmer climates.

The plant was won by W. and M. Lier-Gielens MTS from Meijel and will be marketed by Kientzler Jungpflanzen and Van Lier-Gielens from 2025. Plant breeders' rights protection is pending. Van Vliet New Plants BV from Stroe submitted this Scabiosa for inspection.
