Punica granatum 'Uniqa' – the smallest ornamental pomegranate, full of Mediterranean flair
Punica granatum 'Uniqa' introduces a compact, floriferous novelty to the European garden retail market. This ornamental pomegranate stands out with its bright orange-red, funnel-shaped flowers that bloom profusely from early summer onwards. Later in the season, the flowers are followed by small, non-edible fruits that add extra ornamental value into autumn.
What makes this cultivar truly unique is not just its long flowering period, but especially its compact growth habit. Punica 'Uniqa' is the smallest ornamental pomegranate of its kind. Its modest size makes it ideal for urban gardens, terraces, and balconies. It also fits perfectly in rock gardens, Mediterranean-style plantings, or decorative containers.
This seedling was selected by Ball Australia Pty Ltd and will be introduced to the European market by Hoogeveen Plants. Market launch is planned for 2025. Punica 'Uniqa' is plant breeders’ rights protected and will be managed by Plantipp.
