Physocarpus opulifolius 'Bocomacilem' (MAGICAL CITRUS LEMONADE) stands out because of its compact, broad growth habit and its striking foliage colour. This low-growing selection reaches a height of approximately 50 to 70 centimetres, making it highly suitable for mass planting, ground cover applications and use in public landscapes. When used as a solitary plant, it also provides an attractive splash of colour in the garden.
The young foliage emerges bright yellow and retains a fresh yellow-green colour throughout the summer. One of its key advantages is its resistance to leaf scorch, allowing the plant to maintain its ornamental value over a long period. This characteristic gives the cultivar a clear advantage over existing varieties.
The cultivar was developed by Boot & Co Boomkwekerijen BV and will be introduced to the market by Kolster BV from the autumn of 2026 onwards. Plant breeders' rights have been granted for this variety. Owing to its compact habit and distinctive foliage colour, this new introduction is of particular interest to garden centres, DIY stores, landscapers and public green spaces.
