Hibiscus syriacus 'Rwoods8' (PURPLE CHIFFON) is a striking new addition to the successful Chiffon series. This seedling selection by R. Woods from Norfolk, UK immediately draws attention with its dark red buds that open into vibrant purple, semi-double flowers reaching up to 10 cm in diameter. Flowering begins in July and continues through October, creating a long-lasting and spectacular garden display.
Like the other members of the Chiffon series, PURPLE CHIFFON naturally develops into a well-branched, evenly shaped shrub that requires minimal maintenance. Pruning in spring is optional, not essential. Thanks to its vigorous growth and eye-catching blooms, this Hibiscus is ideal for a wide range of applications, including urban gardens, courtyards, borders, cottage-style landscapes, patios, and even coastal planting schemes.
Hibiscus syriacus PURPLE CHIFFON is protected by plant breeder’s rights and will be commercially available starting in 2025 through Boomkwekerij Ronald Roos, Hochberg Nurseries Ltd., and Kordes Jungpflanzen Handels GmbH. They sumbmitted the plant for novelty evaluation together. Plantipp B.V. is responsible for the management of this new variety.
