Ficus carica 'Minfigfor' (RED JULY) is a new red fig that stands out for its early and double fruiting: already from July and again in autumn. This compact, well-branching fig tree is particularly well-suited for both open ground and container cultivation. RED JULY produces impressively large fruits of up to 150 grams each, already at a young age. A 10-yoar-old tree can yield up to 700 vigs annually.
This selection is highly drought-tolerant (once well established), winter-hardy, low-maintenance, and requires only light pruning. RED JULY thrives best in a sunny location and is an ideal choice for fig enthusiasts seeking a productive tree, even north of the Loire.
Ficus carica RED JULY was selected from seedlings by Isabelle and Jean-Yves Forest of Pépinières Forest SARL in Louresse-Rochemenier, France. The variety is protected by plant breeder’s rights. It has been commercially available only since January 2025. Formidable Plant Breeders from Beaufort-en-Anjou submitted the plant for novelty evaluation.
