Diervilla splendens 'Smndsd' (KODIAK RED 2.0) is an improved version of the existing Kodiak® Red and stands out primarily for its brighter, more intense red foliage, which retains its colour throughout the season. This development fits perfectly with the philosophy of Proven Winners®, which focuses on continuous innovation and ongoing improvement for the market.
This compact and hardy shrub performs reliably under a wide range of conditions, making it suitable for public green spaces, landscaping projects and private gardens alike. Its soft yellow flowers appear during the summer, adding ornamental value while also attracting large numbers of pollinators. In autumn, the foliage takes on warm red tones with subtle hints of orange, providing another striking seasonal feature.
KODIAK RED 2.0 originated as a mutation and was developed by Spring Meadow Nursery Inc. Plant breeders’ rights protection has been applied for. The introduction is scheduled for autumn 2026, after which the variety will be marketed by Handelskwekerij Piet van 't Wout B.V.
With its improved foliage colour, strong growth habit and long-lasting ornamental value, this new Diervilla is an interesting addition to the existing range.
