Berberis thunbergii 'Anva16' (LADY SIENA) – fiery colours, compact growth
Berberis thunbergii 'Anva16' (LADY SIENA) introduces a strikingly variegated new addition to the Berberis assortment. This new selection immediately catches the eye with its upright, compact habit and intensely coloured foliage in vivid shades of orange, red, and white. Especially the young shoots stand out with their bright orange hue, giving the plant a fiery appearance.
The unique colour combination evokes the warm tones of the historic architecture in the Italian city of Siena – the inspiration behind the name. Within the current range of variegated Berberis, LADY SIENA stands out for the exceptional intense colours, which remail visible for a long time.
This variety is fully winter hardy, healthy, and not prone to leaf scorch. It is ideally suited to add contrast and vibrant colour in borders, gardens, and landscaping projects.
Bred by M. Andrusiv in the Czech Republic, the plant will be introduced to the market in 2026 by Valkplant BV. Plant breeders’ rights have been applied for.
