Astilbe chinensis ‘Mighty Max’ – a bold and sparkling summer presence
Astilbe chinensis ‘Mighty Max’ combines impressive flowering performance with a strong and vigorous growth habit. This seedling, bred by Hans van der Meer from Nieuwe Wetering, stands out with its vibrant royal purple blooms that appear in June and July. The thick, elongated plumes rise on sturdy stems, reaching a height of approximately 100–120 cm – making it a striking choice for perennial borders or as a statement plant in containers.
But it’s not just the flowers that draw attention: the foliage is equally remarkable. The deep green leaves are notably attractive and, together with the vivid flower plumes, create a bold and ornamental combination. This blend of foliage and floral appeal makes ‘Mighty Max’ a valuable addition to the summer assortment.
Astilbe chinensis ‘Mighty Max’ will be available from late 2025 to early 2026 and will be introduced by Compass Plants B.V. in collaboration with Hans van der Meer Potplanten. Plant breeders' rights have been applied for.
