Eryngium pandanifolium 'Kolmarethund' (MAGICAL RED THUNDER) is a striking introduction that immediately attracts attention with its distinctive shape and deep red flower heads. This hardy, evergreen selection combines long, sword-shaped foliage with sturdy stems and a pronounced Mediterranean character.
Magical Red Thunder flowers from late summer onwards and is distinguished by its uniform flowering habit, achieved through tissue culture propagation. Its impressive size and elongated flower heads make it a real eye-catcher for garden centres, DIY stores, florists and landscapers. Even after flowering, the plant retains its ornamental value, as the flower heads remain attractive and create a striking winter silhouette.
An important advantage of this new introduction is the combination of robustness and adaptability. The plant shows good resistance to diseases and pests and performs well under both hot, dry conditions and in more humid climates. In addition, its relatively soft spines make it more user-friendly than many other Eryngium varieties.
This seedling was developed by Kolster BV and will be introduced to the market by the same company from the spring of 2027 onwards. Plant breeders' rights have been granted for this variety.
