Rhododendron ‘20087D’ (WONDERRED) is a new introduction that distinguishes itself through the combination of spectacular flowering and unique foliage characteristics. This rhododendron has been developed for the consumer market and is suitable both as a garden plant and as a patio or balcony plant in containers.
In May, large clusters of dark pink-red flowers appear, creating a strong colour accent in the garden. The abundant flowering makes Wonderred® an attractive addition during the period when many spring-flowering plants reach their peak. After flowering, the plant continues to provide ornamental value thanks to its distinctive foliage.
The dark green leaves with a purple underside and the red young shoots give this rhododendron an extra decorative quality throughout the growing season. As a result, Wonderred® offers visual appeal not only during flowering but also beyond the main flowering period.
The combination of spectacular blooms, distinctive foliage, and versatile use as a garden and patio plant makes Rhododendron ‘20087D’ (WONDERRED) a valuable addition to the existing rhododendron assortment for the consumer market. The variety was bred by Mr K. Cox and will be commercially available from 1 August 2026 through Crasborn Containerplanten VOF. Plant breeders’ rights are currently pending.
